Celebrating Our History, Welcoming Our Future: 2016 Gala
Thank you for all the love, Los Angeles! We felt it Saturday night as we celebrated 30 years of inspiring and uniting all Angelenos. The night was filled with embracing our friends and engaging new ones, celebrating our history, and welcoming our future.
While the Omni Hotel provided a fantastic dinner (and dessert!), actor and performance artist, John Fleck, hosted the evening with his charm and his je ne sais quoi.
Honoree Double G was moved by his recognition after decades-long investment in the daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra and commitment to all things music. Now that he is in law school, he teasingly warned the audience to be worried of a frustrated artist with a law degree!
Our second honoree, Jan Perry, recalled wonderful times with her family at Grand Performances’ events throughout the years and cherished moments of dancing with crowds like no one was watching.
We auctioned off items from experiences in Mexico, NY, and an LA Staycation with 24 hour access to a Tesla. We tried something new with a mobile giving push, thermometer and all, which helped us unlock a major gift from The Broad Art Foundation. Thank you to all who gave that night!
And finally we capped the evening off with 300 more friends joining us for the Lea DeLaria: House of David benefit concert. She gave us two shows: her powerful and versatile renditions of David Bowie classics and her brassy and raunchy comedic patter. She was accompanied by a phenomenal band of young cats from the east coast.
Life on Mars was our favorite piece that night. What was yours?
We thank our 700 guests on Saturday night and all the other members and donors who gave in recognition of our 30th. You helped us produce the most successful fundraising gala to date.
We did it! You helped us do it! Thank you!
Reminisce on the night with all of our favorite memories in our photo album here.
